A new collection emerges!

I am in the process of creating a new collection of art pieces, based on brooches and the way that small portraits are framed and hung. They are decoupaged watch crystals encased in black fine crochet threaded with white fleece, the fleece gives the crochet frames a dusty ' under-the-cupboard' loook. A title still escapes me - but I have produced five pieces so far.

Artist Statement; A bit about my work!

I am a mixed media artist-maker; I combine jewellery techniques with 'found' objects, fleece and crochet to create unique adornments and decorative objects, rather than traditional jewellery. I also make small hanging installations.
Crochet forms the main body of my work; in fact it has become something of an addiction. The crochet appears delicate and fragile; I use very tiny hooks, from 0.6 mm and 2.0 mm and very fine yarn. This combined with various found objects means that each piece is unique. Objects such as marbles, beads, bones, feathers, labels and wax are mixed with jewellery pieces and framed and contained within the delicate and seemingly fragile crochet 'pods' and 'nests'. I regard each piece as a visual poem.
I am inspired by Victoriana, Memento Mori and Mourning Jewellery, my themes are concealed memories and guilty secrets. I aim to evoke a series of emotions in the viewer, from sorrow to regret, from revulsion to morbid fascination.

Commissions for New Work Anyone?

I would just like to mention to anyone who maybe interested that my work is for sale, prices on application, and I do take commissions. My work can be viewed on Flickr and on Facebook, and some is on this blog.

New name for my business!!!

I now have a new name for my jewellery and objects 'business'; 'Memories in Twine' I had a brainstorm last week whilst on Facebook, and created a page for my pieces and thought of the name, I am rather proud of it, it has a lovely play on words and sums up my ethos completely... talk about blowing my own trumpet, lol.

A brief description of Miss Havisham, from Great Expectations by Charles Dickens.

She was dressed in rich materials - satins, and lace, and silks - all of white. And she had a long white veil dependent from her hair, and she had bridal flowers in her hair, but her hair was white. Some bright jewels sparkled on her neck and on her hands, and some other jewels lay sparkling on the table. Dresses, less splendid than the dress she wore, and half-packed trunks were scattered about. She had not quite finished dressing, for she had but one shoe on - the other was on the table near her hand - her veil was half arranged, her watch and chain were not
put on, and some lace for her bosom lay with these trinkets and with her handkerchief and gloves, and some flowers, and a prayer book, all confusedly heaped about the looking glass.

.......and everything within my view that ought to be white, had been white long ago, and had lost its lustre, and was faded and yellow.

I saw that the bride within the bridal dress had withered like the dress, and like the flowers, and had no brightness left but the brightness of her sunken eyes.

This poem by Sylvia Plath seemed to fit the mood of my new collection of jewellery 'objects':

My thoughts are crabbed and sallow,
My tears like vinegar,
Or the bitter, blinking yellow
Of an acetic star.

Tonight the caustic wind, love
Gossips late and soon,
And I wear the wry-faced pucker
Of the sour lemon moon.

While like an early summer plum,
Puny, green and tart,
Droops upon it's wizened stem
My lean, unripened heart.
